iPhone scam protection in iOS 27: settings and limits
Apple's Impersonation Risk Detection works with supported apps. Understand that scope before relying on it for an unfamiliar message, call, or payment request.
By Olevo ·
Quick answer
In iOS 27, look in Settings → Privacy & Security → Impersonation Risk Detection. Apple's instructions say to turn on Share with App Developers if you want to enable sharing. The feature works only with apps that support it; it is not a universal check of every call, message, or payment.
Keep independent checks in place. A warning can be useful, but no warning is not proof that a person or request is genuine. Reach your bank or the claimed organization through its real app or an existing trusted contact before sharing access or moving money.
At a glance
Apple's Impersonation Risk Detection gives supported apps a risk assessment for sensitive actions. It is different from asking Olevo to review selected message wording. One helps an app respond to a possible active scam; the other helps you examine a request you choose to provide.
- Someone asks you to bypass a security warning to complete a payment.
- A caller wants a code, password, or remote access.
- You are told to move money before contacting the real provider.
Check the setting and app support, then verify the particular request independently.

Turn on iPhone scam protection, then check what it covers
Start with your device's current Settings screen. Follow the path above and review the available controls. If the option is absent or the screen differs, use Apple's current support instructions rather than a caller's directions or a downloaded profile.
Apple says supported apps can request an assessment for sensitive actions and decide how to respond. A setting alone does not establish that your bank or another particular app supports the feature. Use the app's official help for that question. We have reviewed documentation, not tested protection effectiveness or bank coverage.
A missing warning is not a safety verdict
Apple explicitly says an Unknown risk result does not confirm an action is safe. Keep that distinction in mind when someone says that the phone would have stopped you if there were a problem. The request still needs its own check.
Ask what would leave your control next: a code, an account setting, a payment, or device access. Leave the incoming contact, open the provider independently, and ask about that particular action. Do not make a small test transfer to prove the caller's explanation.
Where an Olevo message review fits
Apple's privacy explanation says this feature does not read the content of Photos, Messages, or Mail. Olevo is a separate iPhone app for reviewing content you choose to provide. It does not automatically monitor those apps or provide Apple's risk-assessment feature.
If you want another reading, copy only the visible request or describe the call after removing private details. Olevo can help explain warning signs and questions to verify. It cannot identify the caller, inspect a bank transfer, open a suspicious site, or guarantee that a request is safe. Contact affected providers first if access or money was already shared.
What it may look like
Illustrative example
Signs to slow down
- A caller tells you to disable or ignore a protection.
- The proposed solution sends money or account secrets to that caller.
- You are discouraged from using independent support.
What to do next
- Review the current Apple setting on your device.
- Check support with the actual app or provider.
- Leave an unexpected caller's instructions and verify independently.
- Contact the affected provider promptly about any access or money already shared.
How to report it
- Use Apple's official reporting guidance for Apple impersonation.
- Report a suspicious account or message through the platform where it arrived.
- Contact the bank first about payment exposure; use the official fraud-reporting route for your country.
How Olevo can help
Olevo offers an optional second reading of selected message wording or a call you describe, alongside independent provider checks.
Remove full codes, account links, passwords, identity details, and payment information. Olevo does not automatically monitor calls or messages, verify a sender, or supply Apple's Impersonation Risk Detection. No integration with that feature is claimed here.

Common questions
Where is the iOS 27 scam-protection setting?
Apple lists Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Impersonation Risk Detection. Review Share with App Developers there. Use Apple's current instructions if your screen differs. Enabling the setting does not establish support by every app, and it does not replace verifying an unexpected payment or account-access request.
Does an Unknown risk result mean a transaction is safe?
No. Apple's documentation expressly separates an Unknown result from confirmation of safety. A request can still need independent verification. Stop if a caller asks for money, passwords, or codes, and contact the actual bank or organization through a route outside that conversation before continuing.
Does Olevo automatically scan my messages through this feature?
No. Olevo reviews the content you choose to provide; this page does not claim an integration with Apple's feature. Remove private details before submitting wording or images. Use the actual provider to confirm account activity, payment status, or the identity of someone claiming to represent it.
